Military Service Procedures

After your registration is completed, your military service status is reported to the Ministry of National Defense through YÖKSİS via the web services of our Institute.

As of August 27, 2018, the Directorate of Student Affairs no longer conducts follow-up procedures regarding military service.

You are required to monitor your military service status via the e-Government portal (e-Devlet) and/or through military recruitment offices, and report any issues to the Directorate of Student Affairs if necessary.

MILITARY SERVICE PROCEDURES FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

Military service procedures are carried out in accordance with Law No. 7179 on Military Recruitment.

For newly enrolled students who are of conscription age, as well as students who have previously enrolled but have only recently reached conscription age, military service deferment for undergraduate studies is granted until the end of the year in which they turn 28, at the latest.

Graduates who have completed a bachelor’s degree at a faculty or school of higher education are required to complete their military service registration within two months following their graduation, either via the e-Government portal (e-Devlet) or by visiting a military recruitment Office. Graduates are entitled to a two-year deferment starting from their graduation date.

Graduates of a higher education program are not eligible for military service deferment if they enroll in a second program at the same level of education.

Military service procedures are reported to the Ministry of National Defense through YÖKSİS via the web services of our Institute after your enrollment is finalized. Since August 27, 2018, the Directorate of Student Affairs no longer monitors military service procedures. You are responsible for tracking your military service status via the e-Government portal (e-Devlet) and/or by visiting military recruitment offices, and you should inform the Directorate of Student Affairs in case you encounter any issues.

MILITARY SERVICE PROCEDURES FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS

Military Service Deferment for Newly Admitted Students:

Military service procedures are carried out in accordance with Law No. 7179 on Military Recruitment.

Military Service Deferment Periods for Graduate Programs:

Master’s Degree with Thesis: 3 years and 4 months

Non-Thesis Master’s Degree: 1.5 years

Doctoral Degree: 6 years

When proposing military service deferment, both the standard duration of the program specified in the applicable academic regulations and the age limits defined in the Implementation Guidelines of Law No. 7179 on Military Recruitment (32 years of age for Master’s programs and 35 years of age for Doctoral programs) are taken into consideration.

It is not possible to request a new deferment for newly admitted students if they already have an existing deferment granted by another institution or university unless the existing deferment is first canceled.

For those who have graduated from a Master’s program, their military service may be deferred for one year starting from their graduation date, provided that they apply to the military recruitment office.

Graduates of doctoral programs are not legally entitled to request a military service deferment based on graduation.

Note: You can check your military service status via the e-Government portal (e-Devlet).
